FOREWORK

Vietnamese as a second Language 2 (VSL2) is the second book in a series of 6 that has been compiled and edited by a group of lectures from the faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language Program for Foreigners, of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City. It is estimated that this book can be mastered in about 100 class hours.

Vietnamese as a second Language 2 (VSL2) includes 12 lessons which introduce a number of model sentences, a number of written Vietnamese grammar points and about 500 new words. The subject matter relates to common everyday topics such as shopping, communicating on telephone, room renting, tourism, hobbies etc… After every five lessons there is one review lesson. Lessons 6 and 12 aim to help the student by reinforcing the structures and skills that he or she has learners. The goal of every lesson is to show the learner how to speak Vietnamese in a way that is completely natural.

In the process of editing and preparing this book, we have received enthusiastic help and contributions of our colleagues and students of the Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language for Foreigners Faculty. In particular, the editorial board of the Educational Publishing House has contributed valuable ideas during the process of editing this series.
